Rolls Royce began producing 10 hp motorcars under this famous name in 1903. The company Rolls Royce was co-founded by two Englishmen,
Charles Stewart Rolls (1877 to 1910) and Fredrick Henry Royce (1863 to 1933). Both men
were fortunate to come from extremely priviledged backgrounds but both men took a very
hands-on approach to motorcar design and enjoyed getting their hands dirty. Charles was also
an avid driver. He was well-known for his Peugeot Phaeton which he drove around during
his time at Cambridge and in 1903 he established a world land speed record of 93 mph in
Dublin driving a 30 hp Mors. Rolls also took a great interest in air travel, beginning with
a fascination for hot air balloons and later, after his meeting with the Wright brothers
at the New York Motor Show in 1906, he took up an active interest in powered flight
and in 1910 Rolls completed the first double crossing of the Channel.
Rolls Royce has produced many models of car over the past one hundred years but the three
Rolls Royce models which stand out in modern day popularity are the Silver Shadow, the Silver Spirit,
and the Silver Seraph. These cars are continuously being improved by Rolls Royce including
modifications as recently as 1999. Although many people view the Rolls Royce as an antique
automobile or a relic from the past, in fact modern-day models are state-of-the art and provide high-value investors with an excellent alternative investment opportunity as an exotic automobile which will provide the investor with endless enjoyment and will increase in value.
